| Kamala Harris Height Used as Tool of Racist Rhetoric by Republicans As the election season approaches, it is becoming increasingly apparent that racism is playing a major role in the Republican party’s rhetoric. And while it is no surprise that Donald Trump and his supporters have been spewing racist attacks against democratic nominee Joe Biden and his running mate Sen. Kamala Harris, what is unexpected is the extremely offensive weapon they have employed to use against Harris – her height. Recently, an anonymous source claimed that Harris had lied about her height, claiming it was 5 feet 2 inches when in reality she is 5 feet 4 inches. While the small difference is certainly not worthy of such intense scrutiny, Harris’s height has become a tool used by the Republican party in order to attack her legitimacy as a candidate. At a recent rally, Trump himself called Harris “short” and questioned why Biden had selected her as his running mate. His rhetoric was nothing short of offensive and it is shameful that he chose to use her height as an insult. But Trump’s comments aren’t the only ones that have been deemed as racist. In an article written for The Wall Street Journal, columnist Peggy Noonan attacked Harris’ height by calling it a “clear-eyed political calculation” for the Biden-Harris ticket. It is obvious that the Republican party has taken racism to a new low and has chosen to weaponize Kamala Harris’ height in order to undermine her candidacy. It is shameful and unacceptable behavior that should not be tolerated. The American people deserve better and it is up to all of us to ensure that the 2020 election is not about racism but about the issues that matter most to our country. |
